Annual visits (also known as “Well-Woman” exams) are an integral part of women’s health care. Many women are unaware that something as simple as a yearly, quick exam can save your life. Brownsville Advanced Ob/Gyn believes an informed patient is a healthy patient, and we cannot stress enough the importance of this annual visit. During this visit, you will meet with Dr. Ramirez to discuss your overall reproductive health and any concerns you may have.
The American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology recommends that every woman should have an annual examination done by her gynecologist. A routine pelvic exam, as part of the annual visit, can assist in guarding against and detecting diseases of the female reproductive system; specifically, Cancer. The only way to detect cervical cancer at an early stage is through a pelvic exam. With early intervention, the American Cancer Society rates that stage 1A cervical cancer has a 93% survival rate.
A Well-Woman exam consists of:
- Physical exam
- Breast Exam: Dr. Ramirez will perform a routine check of your breasts for lumps or irregularities to detect early signs of breast cancer.
- Pelvic Exam: Dr. Ramirez will examine your internal reproductive organs in search of early signs of cancers, sexually transmitted diseases, and diagnose any other issues you may be experiencing.
- Pap Smear: A pap smear test is used to check the cells of the cervix for the growth of precancerous cells. Dr. Ramirez will swab your cervix during your pelvic exam and send these cells to the lab for testing.
